… is whats for dinner

This week I spent WAAAAAAY more than I wanted to at the grocery store! :( It was a sad trip to the store. The past 4 weeks I have spent less than $40.00 for food for the week. I was doing great. This week however was the week that we ran out of everything else we need. Toilet paper, deoderant, soap, mouth wash, dish soap, etc. We usually go out to eat after church on sundays but we had a tailgate party in the parking lot.

(This is me and my hubby at the tailgate party at Momentum Church)

Back to my grocery shopping for the week. So I had to buy food for the tailgate party which actually ended up saving us money by not going out to eat. I stayed with in my food budget of $50.00 for the week, but then I had spent another $30.00 on the the tailgate food, and all the other things I mentioned above. It really isn’t as bed as I make it out to be but when I am use to seeing $36.24ish, the past month and then I see $80.00 and some change this week, it was a jaw dropper. Anyway this is what we are having to eat this week!

Monday:

Meatball and Orzo Soup, Green Beans

Tuesday:

Sloppy Joes, Veggie Sticks

Wednesday:

Chicken Ceasar Salad with Baked Ravioli Croutons

…Is whats for dinner

I made quiche last week, but we didn’t eat because we helped some friends move into their new house and they fed us. We were also supposed to have pizza on friday but we went to my mom’s for dinner instead. I now have two meals all ready to go for this week from last week. I also spent the lowest amount of money on groceries this week. I have been trying to be better about using the food that I have in the pantry, fridge, and freezer, to base my meals for the week off of. Also the fruits and veggies that I get in my Farmers Market Basket

I never know what is going to come in the baskets from week to week so it is always fun trying to come up with recipes that will work with fruits and veggies that I get. This week they decided to take a break from lettuce and they gave us kale. I have never cooked kale before and was a little hesitant. I went online to find a recipe and I found this one which uses both kale and green beans, and green beans were also in my basket this week. Perfect! I am excited to try this recipe I will let you know how it turns out!

Back to how much I spent on groceries this week. We use to set our budget for groceries at $60.00. Throughout the week though we go back to the store a couple of times and spend even more money. We were probably spending at least $80.00 a week on food for 2 people. I really believed that with some planning ahead and using foods that we already had I could keep our weekly food bill to under $50.00. This week I sat down looked at what we had and built our menu around that. I spent a total of $41.30 this week and I have meals planned out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for the both of us!

Grilled Chicken with Spicy Parmesan Green Beans and Kale

Quiche (from last week) and Fruit
